Why visit Kruger?
SANParks describes Kruger as nearly two million hectares spanning an exceptional diversity of life as well as important historical and archaeological places. Its scale is the central planning fact: one carefully chosen region usually makes a better day than an ambitious cross-park dash.
Pick an entrance and realistic turning point before arrival. Rest camps and designated visitor areas create natural pauses for fuel, food, ablutions and route checks; opening a map for the first time after the gate wastes valuable daylight.
Wild This Way currently describes Kruger as preview coverage. We do not claim that public live reporting is available, and this guide never exposes exact wildlife positions. SANParks notices, permits, gate staff and road signs always take precedence.

Choose one gate and one region
SANParks lists nine South African entrance gates and warns that entrance and camp gates close at night. Check the current monthly opening and closing times, then work backwards from the gate or camp you must reach.

SANParks asks visitors to present its gate registration and indemnity form with identification. Check the official gate page before travel in case the process has changed.

Daily visitor numbers are capped. SANParks says the threshold is most likely to matter on public holidays and long weekends, and it offers advance day-visit reservations in addition to conservation fees.

Day-visitor areas and picnic sites
SANParks says every main rest camp has a day-visitor area, with picnic sites and other designated get-out points across the park. Only leave your vehicle where official signs permit it.

Fuel is available at the main rest camps according to SANParks. Do not build a route around arriving on fumes; fill early and recheck the official facilities information for outages or changes.

Download the current SANParks map, gate times, booking details and the contact information for your gate or camp before entering. Write down the day’s closing time rather than relying on a browser tab.

Load your chosen area in the Wild This Way app while connected if you have beta access. Offline resources can support orientation, but live freshness, service availability and late road notices require a connection or confirmation from SANParks.

Carry a paper map, sufficient drinking water and a torch for camp. Share your route with your party, note fuel points, and use official staff for operational advice.
